Start with equivalent specifications
Two pallets with the same footprint can differ in board thickness, timber sections, deck coverage, entry design, condition and intended support. Ask for the offered construction before comparing unit prices. If one quote includes treatment and another leaves it optional, they are not yet comparable.
Quantity and repeat requirements
A one-off bespoke base and a repeat order of a consistent design create different purchasing requirements. Give a realistic quantity and explain likely repeat volumes without treating them as a commitment unless agreed. Ask how a change in batch size affects the quotation and what minimum quantities apply to the offered product.
Delivery and handling costs
State the delivery postcode, unloading arrangements, vehicle restrictions and booking window. Confirm whether delivery is included and whether the quote is exclusive or inclusive of VAT. A low ex-yard price may not be the lowest delivered price for your site. Do not assume a quoted lead time includes time for packing and freight collection.
Whole-job comparisons
Consider sorting, rejected units, extra packing work and compatibility with the customer’s handling process. A used pallet can be suitable for one job but add labour on a tightly controlled line. A bespoke design may prevent rework on an irregular load. These trade-offs should be evaluated against the actual operation rather than a generic cheapest-pallet list.
What to send for a meaningful quote
Provide the drawing or dimensions, quantity, cargo weight and support, handling equipment, condition preference, destination and delivery postcode. Include the date needed for packing. Prices and lead times are confirmed by the team for the offered specification; this guide does not publish an assumed tariff.
