How to check an ISPM 15 pallet supplier

Separate the seller, treatment provider and marking authority when assessing export pallet supply.

Start with identities and scope

Record the legal supplier, contact details and the product being offered. Ask whether it manufactures the pallets, supplies bought-in stock or arranges treatment through another business. Each model can support a legitimate purchase; the issue is whether the responsibilities and offered packaging are clear.

Check the marking provider

The Forestry Commission says producers of compliant packaging must participate in the UK marking programme, and operators applying marks must meet registration requirements. Ask which authorised provider’s identification will appear on the packaging. Where authorisation needs verification, use the relevant national programme rather than a logo on a sales page.

Connect the offer to the delivered product

An accreditation belonging to a provider does not identify every pallet in a mixed delivery. Your order should specify the product, condition and treatment requirement. Check actual marks and condition at receipt, keeping the order reference available. A sample or photograph should represent the agreed product but cannot replace checking the shipment.

Questions for a repeat-supply arrangement

Agree how design changes are communicated, how non-conforming stock is replaced and who handles questions about marks. Ask whether treatment arrangements can change between orders and what confirmation accompanies a change. Keep your current drawing and acceptance criteria with purchasing and goods-in so both teams are working to the same requirement.

Avoid false shortcuts

A long website, a familiar pallet size or a logo resembling an official stamp does not establish authorisation. Equally, a reseller need not pretend to own a treatment chamber to explain a supply arrangement clearly. The useful evidence concerns the actual product and responsible provider, backed by a workable route for resolving exceptions.
